[KOREA JOA 2016] Day 3: K-SPORT, Pyeongchang Winter Olympics 2018!!
On the 3rd day we have to wake up early, as we have to leave the hotel by 8AM to go to our next stop in Pyeongchang, Gangwon Province, the city for the next Winter Olympics in 2018. It is a 3.5 hours drive from Seoul, where we stopped for a quick toilet and snack break in a service area. Korea’s service area is one of the interesting place to find great snacks like ddeokbokki (spicy rice cake), oden (fish cake), mini boiled/fried potato, and all other snacks to fill your tummy. We then continued our bus ride to a place where we eat our lunch while experience a Traditional Korea Cuisine at Jeong Gang Won (The Institute of Korean Traditional Cuisine). This place was used as the main location for K-Drama ‘Sikgaek’.
We were experiencing to make a bibimbap in a huge wooden bowl. And eat it with side dishes like potato pancake, and another pancake I forgot the name, but it was delicious.
After lunch we went to see their accommodation, which is a traditional Korean house called Hanok, the view in Jeong Gang Won was awesome, with trees turning orange and red giving the sign that autumn is here!
Then we moved to our next location, the Alpensia Resort to see the layout of the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics 2018, they explaining what is being build in the area including highways, road, stadium and high speed rail.
They brought us to Alpensia Ski Jump Tower, which is not for faint hearted people. They have 2 K-Points, at 98 meters and 125 meters, both are scary enough for you not to feel acrophobia or your legs giving up on you. It was a great experience.
At Pyeongchang Winter Olympics 2018 head office, we met a Korean ski jump athlete turned national coach for ski jump, Kim Heung-Soo, media friends did some interview with him as he hopes the Korean ski jumping team can win medal in Pyeongchang 2018.
Then we moved to Gangneung to visit their PR Center, it was to experience winter sports, they have a 4D theater where visitor can experience winter sports like Ski Jump and Bob sleights as they are counting down to Pyeongchang Winter Olympics 2018. Wish this event will be a successful one!
Next we are invited for a dinner, this time we eat Hanwoo Barbeque or Korean Beef Barbeque, I also eat Naengmyeong (Cold noodle), it was a full and nice dinner given by the Gangwon Province.
We skipped the Amok Street tour because it is already kinda late.
After the tiring day, we are finally arrived at our hotel, it was a newly build resort, Lakai Sandpine Resort, with the beach as its view, too bad we can’t see the beach during daylight and it was very cold!
Let’s have some rest for tomorrow!
