N.FLYING in Melbourne, &CON4 : Full Circle
As the lights dimmed while the cheers increased, N.Flying took the stage for the first time in Melbourne. After close to 10 years, Melbourne N.Fia (fans of N.Flying), are able to hear their favourite group perform live on stage near home. The screams were deafening when we saw the members enter the stage and it didn’t stop when they started singing Born to Be, which was then followed by Moonshot.

The amount of instruments on stage should not be a surprise to anyone as the members started introducing themselves starting with their leader, SEUNGHYUB (vocals and piano), followed by HWESEUNG (vocals and guitar), HUN (guitar), JAEHHYUN (drums), and DONGSUNG (bass). They mentioned how they were excited to finally be in Australia for their 5th world tour. Before their next song (I Like You), the crowd was taught on how to do the fanchant in which we can hear everyone joining along. The rest of the band looked very pleased at how the crowd was responding and with every concert, the energy from the audience is generally the reflection of the energy that feeds back to the performer. We can definitely say the energy was impeccable throughout the performance.
They continued on performing two more songs before ultimately doing the rite of passage for every KPop performer in Australia, the “Aussie! Aussie! Aussie! Oi! Oi! Oi!” chant. Initially SEUNGHYUB wasn’t sure on how to do it but then stumbled upon it and led the fans to do the chants with JAEHYUN then following along while changing the volumes once in a while.
Once the crowd calmed down a bit more, they started talking about on the way to Palais Theatre, they passed by an amusement park (Luna Park) and the beach (St. Kilda Beach) and HWESEUNG mentioned how the waves were beautiful and hoped N.Fia will be able to make the waves during Sunset to be as beautiful as what they previously saw. The song was then followed by Run Like This as the crowd followed along to the chants with some people jumping during parts of the song.
The segment was then wrapped up with Blue Moon. SEUNGHYUB mentioned how Blue Moon meant that they wanted to keep the moment forever which included that exact moment as the view from the stage was so beautiful and he requested the fans if they can keep the view throughout the whole night, which they then continued to sing Firefly, including an explosive solo stage by HUN on the electric guitar. This was then followed by the song Dangerously which was initially released by SEUNGHYUB as a solo but was performed as a group this time.
SEUNGHYUB teased N.Fia, mentioning how the group version of the song brings out the sexiness in them and how the song itself was sexy. He then also made sure that the fans seated at the back of the venue were still having fun and were able to still hear them properly as he mentioned how the fans at the back may be a little bit more shy which was refuted by the loud cheers they made afterwards.
HWESEUNG then mentioned how HUN’s guitar solo was so good and that he saw someone in the audience recording during the song but then started zooming in a lot during the guitar solo which he then reenacted and made the audience laugh. As HUN was prompted to answer, he then became shy and started saying how the other members kept on saying how amazing the guitar solo was despite him already performing that in front of the others maybe a thousand times, but then proceeded to lead the crowd into cheering Aussie! Aussie! Aussie! The next song they sang was a song that SEUNGHYUB mentioned was written for N.Fia and reiterated the fact that a lot of their songs were written for the fans.
It was then time to bring the temperature up a notch as they proceeded to Oh Really, Anyway, and 4242. They once again, did not forget to teach the crowd how to do the fanchant for Oh Really and it prompted a really good response from the audience as they get to engage more during the show and wouldn’t feel left out with the fanchant as typically, only fans would know how to do the fanchant.
At one point during the show, the band mentioned how they recorded the temperature in the room before everyone entered but then it increased by four degrees after they started and they haven’t even reached the song where it was meant to peak just yet.
The next section was a bit more special compared to the others as they did a song twice in a row. The Real was sung twice as they initially did it without teaching the crowd the fanchant, but the band were pleasantly surprised as the fans were able to follow along with the fanchants without being told the lyrics. After finishing the first round of The Real, they mentioned how it was such a shame to not be able to teach the crowd on how to do the fanchant before they sang the song, which then prompted them to teach the audience and restart the song once again.
As the night was slowly coming to an end, the songs they brought slowed down a little bit in tempo and brought a different vibe to the venue, and when N.Flying left the stage, fans started cheering for an encore stage. This was then accepted by the band members and they went back out on stage with hoodies from their merchandise list. They then proceeded to start wrapping up the night with their thoughts about the show after singing Rooftop in hoodies as SEUNGHYUB picked up a red megaphone and started singing into it.

SEUNGHYUB started off by saying how they were halfway through the tour but will definitely absorb the energy Melbourne gave to give back to N.Fia in the next tour stop to keep the momentum going. He also mentioned how he was thankful for the massive energy throughout the night. This was then continued by HWESEUNG as he mentioned how he was nervous because he was performing in Melbourne for the first time and the fact that there would have been fans waiting for them for 10 years but that they’re finally here during their 10th year anniversary. He then also thanked the audience for always cheering them on throughout the night.
While SEUNGHYUB and HWESUNG opted to do their closing comment in Korean, the rest of the members did theirs all in English. JAEHYUN told us how he went to the NGV the day before the concert and how that was very beautiful but he then said that the concert was more beautiful with N.Fia. He then ended his speech with a “see ya later alligator!” which was greeted with laughter from the audience as they found it cute. HUN spoke about how N.Fia made his day by singing along to the songs, dancing together, jumping together and he mentioned how the fans are like treasures to him. DONGSEON made his speech short and sweet in English by mentioning how he wanted to be able to go back to Melbourne. The other members then mentioned that HUN doesn’t usually go out of his hotel rooms often during tours but he left his room in Melbourne because he thought the vibe of the city was great.
The night ended with N.Flying singing Songbird, which was initially released in a Japanese album but was then re-recorded in Korean and was released in their most recent Korean album. The song choice was a perfect one as the audience will be able to look back and think about how the night ended on a lighter note instead of a sad song.
Despite the timing and accuracy issues with the translator and the sound errors, N.Flying definitely wrote this show down for the books. The night will be written in history.
A massive thank you to Live Planet for providing us media passes for the show.
