Korean R&B Star Dept Thrills Fans at First Jakarta Concert

Korean R&B singer, songwriter, and producer Dept successfully wrapped up his very first concert in Indonesia “2024 DEPT LIVE IN JAKARTA” on August 24, 2024, at Balai Sarbini.

That night, the singer didn’t perform alone. He was joined by Avokid, a fellow singer, songwriter, and producer. They kicked off the concert at 7 PM WIB with “Winter Blossom“, harmonizing their voices and serenading the fans. The loud cheers from fans also filled the venue, creating an electrifying atmosphere. “So energetic,” Dept remarked.

During his first ment, Dept expressed his gratitude to Adapt (Dept’s fandom name). “Halo, saya Dept (Hi, I’m Dept). I finally made it here. Thanks to your support, I’m so happy to hold my first concert in Indonesia. It’s an honor.”

Like many other Korean artists, Dept also learned some bahasa Indonesia from his fans. He proudly said: 

“You are lucu” (You’re cute)
“Sama-sama” (You’re welcome)
“Semangat!” (Fighting!)

Dept also expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome he received upon arriving at the airport. “I was happy and surprised by that. Aku mencintaimu (I love you),” he said.

The next performance featured a song about longing, “Beyond the Star“. They calmed the concert atmosphere with “Promise“. During the performance, Dept and Avokid linked their fingers as a sign of ‘promise.’ Fans continued to sing along with them during “Waiting For You“.

Dept surprised the fans by giving out his album through quizzes. Fans who successfully answered questions about his real name, his MBTI, the first food he tried in Indonesia, how long it took to make his first album, and his favorite artist were able to take his album home.

During the concert, fans discovered a new fact about Dept: he can dance! The singer showcased some dance moves, including a moonwalk, during “Moonlight“. About his dancing, he said, “Some people might be shocked, but I started dancing in middle school.”

Dept and Avokid each performed solo, with “Love Song” and “1,2,3” respectively. The concert also featured Singaporean singer Shaza as a guest star. She not only performed her solo songs but also did a duet with Dept, singing his viral song “Van Gogh” in an acapella version. Their melodious voices echoed throughout the venue, harmonizing beautifully with the fans’ singing.

Indonesian Adapt were lucky as Dept exclusively announced that his new album “Summer Night” is set to be released this month! Hearing this, fans were exhilarated, eagerly anticipating another masterpiece from the singer.

Through this show, we also discovered that not only is he a master at singing and producing songs, but Dept is also the king of fan service. He was friendly and posed according to fans’ wishes. The concert was very enjoyable because he was both communicative and funny.

As the show came to an end, once again he raised the energy with his hit songs “Winter Blossom” and “Van Gogh” for the encore.
