[KU REPORT] Amazing Concert That is “Sungha Jung Live in Jakarta”!

One of beyond amazing nights we got here from a very young 16 years old boy named Jung Sungha or everybody known as Sungha Jung. The boy has an amazing talent and he proved it to audiences of Sungha Jung Live in Jakarta on November 16 night at Balai Kartini, Jakarta.

Hours before the concert KoreanUpdates had the chance to meet Sungha for the press conference of the show. Sungha looked like one shy boy and got some help from his manager to answer the questions and accompanied by Mahana Live’s Project Director, Mr. Ridho Aditya Gumilang. On the press conference Sungha who is a finger style guitarist revealed how he’s glad to have a concert in Jakarta and is ready to bring an around 90 minutes guitar performance filled with his original songs and covers of famous Kpop and American pop songs. Within the songs he had performed before, he picked his song Irony, Maroon 5’s Payphone, and Big Bang’s Monster as his favorites and also said that he would bring a special performances using ukulele instead of guitar for the concert. Other than that, Sungha revealed that his next solo album will be out next year and he just had recorded a collaboration album with 5 Japanese guitarists consists of 9 songs and expected to be released next month. Sungha who thinks he’s not a big star ended the press conference with a statement of his hope to perform with other instruments in the future.

The sold out concert had unexpected audiences from children to elder, from young girls to fathers start to coming from 4 PM local time and queuing until the gate opened at 6 PM. The show started with an introduction of the concert by MC and the lights were off, the fans started to screaming until the awaited boys showed up on the stage said hi to all of the audiences. The first song performed was Irony from his solo album followed by performance of his favorite song Maroon 5’s Payphone. After putting amazing opening performances Sungha said to the audiences how he knows that Indonesia loves Kpop songs then he delivered covers of 2NE1’s Lonely and Big Bang’s Monster smoothly. Sungha didn’t stop there, he brought more soothing performance of Nostalgia from his own album, but followed by a beat song from Jason Mraz called Geek in the Pink. Before put an end to the first set of the concert, Sungha played one of the songs from the famous Sound of Music titled My Favorite Thing and Blue Punk which is arranged by his best friend from Japan.

The second set started with Sungha’s greeting bringing the ukulele and a song titled Somebody That I Used to Know. The surprises didn’t stop coming because Sungha suddenly tuned in to Mario Bros’ theme song brought laughter from the audiences. After Geek in the Pink, Sungha played another song by Jason Mraz, I’m Yours, which followed by a cover of G-Dragon’s Missing You. It looked like Sungha got a bunch of sweet song in his pocket because he performed another sweet melody which titled Friends coming from his album. More screaming heard as the concert is getting closer to the end and Sungha put amazing covers of movie soundtracks from Howl’s Moving Castle and Phantom of The Opera. Sungha suddenly stopped his playing and said that he would perform last song of the night and thanked people who come to his concert before he performed Freight Train. He stood up and walked off the stage before he once again set his guitar and play Boogie Guitar for the real last song of the night. He called it quit before bowing to the audiences and thanked us for coming tonight.

That was an amazing concert by a boy who only played a guitar for almost 2 hours, but succeeded on awed us and deserved applause from the various audiences who came to the show. Good luck with your career and hope to see you soon here in Jakarta again!
